Delivery of 42 House Modules

Project overview

We successfully delivered oversized cargo from the Port of Riga in Latvia to northern Sweden – 42 house modules.

Each module measured approximately 10.6 m long, 4.2 m wide and 3.1 m high. Because of these dimensions, sea transport was the most efficient solution.

The modules, manufactured in Latvia, were intended for an apartment development in Skellefteå, Sweden.

Challenge

Their size meant the cargo could not be treated as a standard shipment. A suitable vessel had to be selected, handling operations planned and all 42 modules safely loaded, secured for the voyage and unloaded at destination without damage.

For a project of this type, precise coordination between all parties at the loading and discharge ports is just as important as the transport itself.

Our solution

TLC organised the sea transport from Riga to northern Sweden. A vessel suited to the cargo was selected, loading and securing operations were coordinated, and trusted partners were engaged at both ports.

Where required on projects of this type, our project manager can be present at loading and discharge locations to coordinate operations and supervise cargo securing.

Result

Visi 42 house modules were successfully delivered to northern Sweden. The shipment demonstrated that even very large project cargo can be moved efficiently when the transport mode, vessel, handling and securing are planned as one integrated process.

Key project aspects

Forty-two house modules manufactured in Latvia were delivered from the Port of Riga to northern Sweden.

Each module measured approximately 10.6 m long, 4.2 m wide and 3.1 m high. Because of these dimensions, an individually selected sea-transport solution was required.

Particular attention was given to selecting the right vessel, loading the modules, securing them for the voyage and unloading them safely at the destination port.

The project was carried out on the Riga–northern Sweden route, drawing on TLC's experience in organising oversized and project cargo transport in the Baltic Sea region.

Oversized cargo transport by sea

There is no single universal solution for oversized and project cargo. Cargo dimensions, weight, handling possibilities, port infrastructure and the final destination determine which vessel and transport model will be most suitable. TLC organises the transport of oversized cargo, structures, equipment, modules and wind-energy components throughout the Baltic Sea region and on other international routes.
