Ship Agency and Freight Forwarding for Wood-Pellet Vessels

Project overview

Long-term cooperation with the client and an integrated logistics-services model led to a significant increase in wood-pellet cargo flows in the Port of Klaipėda. TLC provided the client with the entire service chain – fromcargo reception at the terminal and warehousing to freight forwarding, documentation and ship agency. Following successful cooperation, a long-term service agreement was signed in 2023, and vessel traffic increased noticeably by the end of the year and in early 2024.

Challenge

A growing number of ships carrying wood pellets created a much higher workload for terminal and vessel-service processes. Whereas previously one or two vessels of this type were typically handled during the winter season, in December 2023 alone the number increased to five. The higher vessel flow made cargo-handling schedules more complex and required precise coordination between terminal, agency and cargo operations.

Our solution

TLC provided the client with an integrated logistics-service model in which all key stages were coordinated within one chain.

We organised cargo reception at the terminal, warehousing and forwarding, handled the required documentation and provided ship agency services in the Port of Klaipėda. As vessel numbers increased, particular attention was given to planning handling schedules and promptly coordinating the actions of the various parties involved.

Result

In December 2023 alone, the TLC team successfully handled 5 vessels carrying wood pellets. From the beginning of December 2023 to the end of January 2024, a total of10 vesselscarrying wood pellets were serviced in the Port of Klaipėda.

The increased flow demonstrated that an integrated service model can efficiently handle larger cargo volumes while maintaining smooth vessel service, documentation and cargo-handling coordination.

Key project aspects

Following successful cooperation, a long-term service agreement was signed in 2023 covering cargo reception at the terminal, warehousing, freight forwarding, documentation and ship agency.

In December 2023 alone, the TLC team successfully serviced five vessels carrying wood pellets.

From the beginning of December 2023 to the end of January 2024, ten vessels carrying wood-pellet cargo were serviced in the Port of Klaipėda.

The project involved more than ship agency – TLC coordinated cargo reception, warehousing, forwarding, documentation and other operations related to cargo movement.

The growing number of vessels required highly precise coordination of the terminal, handling schedules and vessel servicing to ensure cargo was processed on time.

Wood-pellet logistics and ship agency

Wood-pellet logistics involves more than sea transport alone – the entire movement of the cargo through the port matters: reception, warehousing, forwarding, documentation, coordination of handling schedules and ship agency.

TLC can coordinate this entire chain as one process, helping the client manage larger cargo flows and ensure smooth vessel servicing in the Port of Klaipėda.
