Reducing Warehousing Risks

Project overview

One of our clients faced a practical logistics challenge – they had a large quantity of organic fertiliser packed in 1,000 kg bags, but this packaging format was aimed primarily at wholesale or industrial buyers.

When no buyer could be found for the full quantity in that form, the risk of long-term storage costs increased. The TLC team proposed changing the way the product was presented – repacking the fertiliser into smaller packages, which would be more attractive to a wider range of buyers.

The solution was implemented at a partner terminal and helped the client open up new sales opportunities.

Challenge

The organic fertiliser was packed in 1,000 kg big bags, making the product suitable mainly for large buyers. When a buyer for the full quantity could not be found quickly, there was a risk that the goods would remain at the terminal for longer and storage costs would continue to rise.

The client needed not only a logistics service, but also a solution that would make the product itself easier to sell.

Our solution

TLC proposed repacking the organic fertiliser into smaller bags, so that the product would be suitable not only for wholesale buyers but also for customers purchasing smaller quantities.

The repacking was carried out at our partner’s terminal. In this way, the logistics challenge was addressed not only through storage or transport, but also by adapting the product presentation to the actual market situation.

The solution allowed the client to sell the available quantity more flexibly and reduced dependence on a single large buyer.

Result

After the organic fertiliser was repacked into smaller units, new buyers for the product were found and the client was able to complete the transaction successfully.

The solution helped reduce the risk of high storage costs and made it possible to offer the product to a broader market.

The project demonstrated that a properly selected value-added logistics service can address not only transport or warehousing challenges, but also product-sales challenges.

Key project aspects

The client's organic fertiliser was packed in 1,000 kg big bags intended for wholesale or industrial buyers.

The large packaging format made the product harder to sell because no suitable buyer was found for the entire quantity in that form.

TLC proposed repacking the product into smaller bags at a partner terminal so that it would be suitable for a wider range of buyers.

Faster sales in smaller packaging helped the client reduce the risk of long-term storage costs.

Changing the package size attracted new buyers and enabled the client to complete the transaction successfully and reach a broader market.

Repacking and value-added logistics solutions

Sometimes a logistics solution begins not with transport, but with preparing the product itself for the market. Repacking, picking, labelling and other value-added services can help adapt goods to different sales channels and reduce unnecessary storage requirements.

Together with its partners, TLC can organise these additional services and adapt the logistics chain to the client’s specific situation.
