Transport of Steel Coils

Project overview

Within a very short timeframe, the TLC team organised the transport of non-standard cargo by vessel „MV Bonita“from the Port of Klaipėda to Belgium. The cargo consisted of10 impressive metal coils. The TLC team managed the loading procedures, planned cargo positioning and organised securing before the sea voyage.

Because of the non-standard dimensions and weight, the project required rapid preparation, precise coordination and a tailored handling solution.

Metalinių ričių gabenimas laivu iš Klaipėdos į Belgiją

Challenge

The cargo dimensions were unusual – one coil was approximately 5 m, with a length of approximately 5,5 m, while the combined weight of all 10 coils exceeded 33 tonas. Loading cargo of this type requires its dimensions, weight, position on board, securing points and loading sequence to be assessed in advance. Because the project had to be completed within a short timeframe, a rapid response from all parties involved was also essential.

Our solution

The TLC team coordinated cargo preparation and loading in the Port of Klaipėda, planning the positioning and securing of the coils on MV Bonita. Particular attention was paid to cargo stability during the voyage, correct weight distribution and suitable securing solutions. All activities were coordinated so that the cargo could be loaded, transported and delivered safely to the client in Belgium.

Result

All 10 metal coilswere successfully loaded in the Port of Klaipėda and delivered to Belgium. The project was completed within a short timeframe, while careful preparation, cargo-handling coordination and properly planned securing enabled the non-standard cargo to be managed smoothly.

Key project aspects

Transport of 10 non-standard metal coils was organised from the Port of Klaipėda to Belgium aboard MV Bonita.

One coil was approximately 5 metres high, requiring an individual loading and transport solution.

The coils were approximately 5.5 m long, so their positioning and securing on board had to be planned in advance.

The combined weight of the 10 coils exceeded 33 tonnes, making accurate weight distribution and coordinated loading and securing especially important.

Transport of non-standard metal cargo

Large and heavy metal cargo requires an individual transport plan. Cargo dimensions, weight, handling possibilities, securing method and vessel characteristics must be assessed in advance. TLC organises sea transport for non-standard, heavy and project cargo, coordinating loading, securing, vessel services and other project stages.
