We would like to tell you about our well-known colleague Algirdas Pauliukevičius. To many of us, Algirdas is a reliable team member and freight forwarder. But his work does not end there – he also serves with the Klaipėda Fire and Rescue Board.
On 26 August, while off duty, Algirdas witnessed a road accident in which a car struck a woman. He stopped, immediately went to help and provided first aid to the injured woman until medical staff arrived.
What is a freight forwarder?
A freight forwarder is a specialist who organises cargo transport and coordinates import and export processes. Algirdas’s day-to-day work illustrates the essence of the profession well – it is not only about documentation, but about coordinating the entire logistics chain.
A freight forwarder’s responsibilities can include:
- selecting the most economical route;
- selecting transport equipment according to the cargo type;
- coordinating transport, insurance and customs documents;
- organising cargo warehousing;
- continuous monitoring of cargo movement;
- communication with shippers, consignees and carriers.
Freight forwarding is the invisible bridge along which cargo moves. The purpose of the service is to ensure the smooth and economical movement of goods from the place of dispatch to the final consignee by selecting an individual solution for each client.
Specialist at the Klaipėda Fire and Rescue Board
The role of a specialist in the Operations Management Division of the Klaipėda Fire and Rescue Board requires not only professional knowledge but also responsibility, rapid decision-making and the ability to act in difficult situations.
The work also demands constant alertness and teamwork – qualities that are equally important in freight forwarding.
Algirdas’s experience in the fire and rescue service gives him additional risk- and crisis-management skills that are useful both in logistics and in everyday situations.
